New Look

As you can see, I have a new look for the blog. Also this will likely be the second last posting to this blog as I will be starting a new blog on my new website.

I have registered www.davidboultbee.com and www.thegenderdivide.com as the Official websites for myself and The Gender Divide.

Currently these sites link to the existing googlepages but the new sites will go live soon. I have updated the googlepages to match the content of the new pages but the look will be different.

I haven't posted anything recently as I have been working on these new sites, as well as doing significant editing on The Gender Divide. I have finished my changes, so now it is back to the editor to see what other changes might be needed.

I've also written a short story, currently titled The Lake Effect. This story is set in the same world as The Gender Divide. The events in The Lake Effect help to set the stage for The Gender Divide but both stories stand on their own. I hope to have this story available on Amazon.com soon as part of their Amazon Shorts program.

Hopefully my next post will be to let you know that the new sites are live.

Until then.

Excerpt of Chapter One Posted!

I have updated the website for The Gender Divide with an excerpt of Chapter One. Jump on over and check it out. We are still in the proofing phase so if there are any glaring errors please let me know!

I am also close to finalizing the design of the cover with the publisher. I really like it - I think that it captures the idea of the book perfectly. The only nit that I am picking - and isn't that a lovely image - is regarding the font and placement of the Title.

I don't want to post anything prematurely but as soon as I have a finalized version I will make it available.

Happy reading.

Google World Domination Imminent!

I now have a website for The Gender Divide. You can visit it via the links section in my blog or at thegenderdivide.googlepages.com. So how does Google World Domination fit into this?

I was looking at setting up a website and all the options I looked at cost money. Not a lot, admittedly, but I'd prefer to spend money on more direct forms of promotion. I was already using Google for this blog as well as Google Analytics to track the traffic so I got to wondering if Google had something for web pages and as it turns out they do.

Hmm, I think I'm beginning to see a pattern here. Google Blog, Google Analytics, Google Pages. For someone who didn't even use Google search before - I prefer Vivisimo due to its clustering feature - I'm now suddenly an avid Google user. It's easy to see why people love Google. Their products are fast, easy to use and - best of all - free. If they keep this up can World Domination be far behind?

Big Brother is Watching!

Okay, it's not really Big Brother, it's Google Analytics. I've added some code - don't ask me how, I just did what Google told me to - to my blog and now I can track the traffic that I'm getting. It's actually a pretty cool service but at the moment it's kind of depressing to see how few hits I'm getting. Of course only a few people know about my blog - or about my book The Gender Divide - right now but as I let more people know about it I can see what kind of impact I'm having.

I also added a Links section and a chat box - think of it as being able to comment on the whole blog rather than just one entry at a time. It's actually pretty easy to do that and I have Google to thank for it. The chat box is provided by Tag Board but Google makes it easy to put all of this together.

Anyway now I can see all sort of neat stats about what kind of traffic I'm getting, which sites it's coming from, how long people are staying, etc. So visit often and stay a while.

Big Brother - oops, I mean David

World Famous Author Invents Time Machine!

Okay, technically I'm not a world famous author - not yet anyway. Actually I'm not sure I'm officially an author since my book hasn't been published yet. As for the time machine part, I just found out that the print edition of my book The Gender Divide probably won't take six months as I mentioned in my previous post but with any luck could be available by the fall. So it's not really a time machine but personally I think that sounds better than saying I made a mistake.

As cool as it is to find out that it will be available that much sooner, it's unfortunately too late for it to become a summer blockbuster. It would, however, make great reading for when the kids are back in school. It would also still make a great Christmas gift. Just think of how impressed your friends / spouse / dog / cat(s) will be at your efficiency in getting your holiday shopping done so early!

Hello World!

This was always the first thing that new programmers were supposed to do when they started programming - create a program to display the worlds 'Hello World'. I figured it was an appropriate way to start my new blog. So hello and welcome.

The reason I haven't started a blog before now was that I didn't really have anything to say that I thought anyone would be interested in hearing - okay, reading. Well now I do. I've just signed a contract to have my first novel published. I've actually written 3 complete novels (and started a couple of others).

My first novel is called Idiot Savant. It is fairly long (130K words) and needs some editing in terms of pace and flow but I think the story is solid. At least I certainly like it and others who have read it (thanks to the barflies at Baen's Bar) have had favorable reviews and some encouraging comments. I plan to submit it once I've had the chance to clean it up a little.

My second novel, called Terminal Illness, has some good parts but even I think it needs work.

My third novel is called The Gender Divide and is unarguably my best work. I'm hoping that means I'm getting better but the story and characters inspired me. This is the novel that I submitted to Shadowmere Publishing and they very graciously agreed with my assessment and decided to publish it. Despite my dry tone I am actually very excited about this. I debated whether or not to put the video of me jumping for joy here but I figured that YouTube and all the other video sites were already saturated with far more interesting things (Mentos Diet Coke Prank) so I decided to pass.

Here is the back cover blurb from The Gender Divide.

* * *

Ryan Peters is an anomaly. In a world where women live four times as long as men do, Ryan is one of a few men with a similar life span. This difference in lifespan has had profound consequences on the world balance of political, economic and military power and has created a social Gender Divide that threatens to split the country apart.

Ryan is determined to close this Gender Divide and will sacrifice anything to accomplish it. It has already cost him the one true love of his life and even though he has a second chance, he won't let that stand in his way. He is even willing to give up his own life … and in a sense he already has.

If you're interested in it, leave me your email in the reader comments and I'll be happy to email you when the novel becomes available. We are currently targeting a late July or early August release in an eBook format with the print copy to follow roughly six months later (this would make a great Christmas gift for the Sci-Fi reader in your family).

If you are looking for something good to read RIGHT NOW check out fellow Shadowmere author Mark Terence Chapman. His new novel The Mars Imperative is available in a number of places (more info on his blog).

Anyway enough for now. I'll try to keep this up to date but in the meantime feel free to drop me a note and let me know how I'm doing.

Thanks.

David
